15 CPW Sets 'Enthusiasm' Record

Monday, November 14, 2005, by Joshua

2005_10_15cpw.jpgThe white-gloved folks at 15 Central Park West have issued a press release to say that units in the ultra-lux development are selling just fine, thankyouverymuch. In fact, the release calls the $650 million in contracts and $100 million in pending deals (or 75 of 201 condos sold), a "historic record." Where to look in your dog-eared Guiness Book for the old record holder? Here's a hint: "With a 40 percent sellout in less than 2 months and 12 of the 16 penthouses sold, no other single project has demonstrated such enthusiasm in such a short amount of time," says developer Arthur Zeckendorf.

Well I can't tell you how glaaad I am to see the Mayor's "afforable housing program" doing so well. How wonderful that our poorer rich people who are barred from living on the East Side, can now own penthouses on the colorful "West Side" which even I have been known to visit on occasion. Again, can't wait to tell the gang at Swifty's tomorrow!

Hugs,

Gloria

Gloria - do you expect to have affordable housing on Central Park West? Projects like this one will generate dozens of millions of dollars in real estate and transfer taxes that help finance affordable housing projects. And the real estate taxes will keep pouring in for many years to come. Where they do build a so-called affordable housing project, it usually leads to corruption, bribes and very few people that actually need and deserve affordable housing don't get any. I think the city should stop zoning down areas of the city and allow as much construction as developers want so they can build as high as they want and that will make housing much more affordable. Lack of supply is what causes the affordability problem.
