15CPW Penthouse Sale Sets New Manhattan Record

A Curbed reader stationed high in the sky above Central Park West sends along an aerial construction view of construction progress on Robert A.M. Stern's 15 Central Park West. Forget those rumors of big boys backing off the big penthouses, by the way: hedge fund manager Daniel Loeb has agreed to spend $45 million for the premier 10,000-square-foot 15CPW penthouse, reports Braden Keil. The price sets a new Manhattan real estate record, exceeding the $44 million Rupert Murdoch spent for Laurance Rockefeller's triplex penthouse at 834 Fifth Ave.

After the jump, a peek at the full aerial shot of the construction site. And, in case you missed it, check out the extreme floorplan porn on one of the 15CPW penthouses featured here a few weeks back.

UPDATE: New development blog Triple Mint has a "you-are-there!" schematic of the penthouse about a third of the way down this page.

Ummmm... "Bob... I bid $45,000,001."

Stern & Hagman (the name of Bob's office before Lynn ran off with his employee and he had to downsize) entered the Roosevelt Island competition many years ago. Bob was the only entrant who put the tallest buildings behind lower buildings in front -- every one else put towers on the river.

Now he finally gets to build his scheme.
