Teany Closes; What's Next for Moby?

Tuesday, January 3, 2006, by Joshua

2005_07_90riv.jpgGothamist is reporting the closing of Moby's tea emporium, Teany, on Rivington St. Crushing, crushing, blow for this fellow Moby, who was this close to making it. There is this tantalizing addendum though: "They are going to reopen in a month with something different." Rejoice! And dream of a Pianos, Moby-style.

UPDATE: Moby says, "contrary to some of the rumors that are floating around, teany isn't being shut down. we are going to close for a few weeks to revamp and re-model, but we're not shutting down." [via Newyorkology]

Oh my G_d! This is horrible -- does it have anything to do with Starbucks?

One week's severence -- how liberal of Moby. Even the cheapest most capitalist corporations usually give 2 weeks to their discards...

Does this mean they won't continue to stock the shelves of Fairway with bottled Teany brand teas. To be honest I always thought the money was in the wholesale business, not the cafe. A little too healhty if you asked me.

And what about Teany To Go? I still have five more to buy before I get my free one!

And their Welsh Rarebit was good, actually.

Excellent! Another step in eradicating the "hipster" elements from the LES. First being the Starbucks on Delancey and Allen.

Maybe teany will reopen in Pro Height?

What a shame - that'll teach him to name a restaurant after the size of his prick.

Now he can move on to the obligatory children's book (or has that already happened) and become a spokesmodel for online gaming sites. Maybe a cameo as the trainer on the Biggest Loser? So many options.

If Moby had a tiny dick and named his restaurant after it, that would actually be pretty cool--a lot cooler than posting juvenile comments about penis size 3 times on a real estate site.

Teany and Teany To Go both closed up tight today -- sign on the door of Teany says they'll reopen shortly after renovations...

But what will happen to that fabulous menu, where someone found a reason to have a star tag all vegan food, with everything starred.
