LIC Rising: New Rendering of Queens West

With the Long Island City groundbreakings coming so fast you need a program to keep track, we were fascinated by this new rendering on Rockrose Development Corp.'s website of what is going where at Queens West. As we've noted, ground was recently broken for Avalon Riverview North (after the little problem of toxic soil on the site was addressed). Phase II of Queens West, which is contracted to Rockrose, will contain seven buildings with 3,200 residential units and 20,000 square feet of commercial space. The first two buildings have been designed by Arquitectonica. A third building will start construction later this year.

With all the earth moving and pile driving, however, all is not happy at Queens West. (Nor will it be for many years to come.) Existing residents of 32-story Avalon Riverview are not thrilled with "toxic dust," living next to a huge construction site and, of course, disappearing views. Close your eyes, and you can almost visualize the discontent moving like a wave from building to building as construction moves on.

1.

A few things:

- Rockrose has said they are going to build 1 building a year

- It is more the Citylights residents who are paying the price of all the construction to the North

- I think it is 3,200 units total.

- The third building to start will be the 20 story condo.

Much much more to come.
