Friendly Neighbors Greet Potential Buyers in Williamsburg

Last time we dropped by Karl Fischer Row alongside McCarren Park in Williamsburg, our view was from afar. This time we decided to get a little bit closer, and much like a Monet or a pretty girl, sometimes things look a little different when you nuzzle up right next to it. The famed "hold-out building" wedged in between 20 Bayard and Lotus has a banner up showing a syringe and the text "beauty addiction." Now, this could be a comment on the condo saturation or simply a message to viewers of Extreme Makeover, but one thing's for sure, the message spray-painted on the front of the Lotus building is way more clear: the 'Burg is being overrun by Satanists!

The "Beauty Addiction" syringe has been up for years... long before any condos broke ground around McCarren. Those condos are far from beautiful.

I have noticed that these building have had very little progress in the past few months. Has construction stopped or slowed down?

The 666 might be a new marketing campaign to target a different kind of buyer. :)

The Wall Street crowd buying these places already worships the Dark Prince so this may encourage more buyers.

ahh.. my Williamsburg, where crazy, cute, ugly, rich, poor, clean, drugged and glasses (sun and black rimmed) all live in a sort of happiness...

like a playland, don't worry kids...the people buy these condos wont live there, they will rent to you and I for over exaggerated prices...we'll be fine. beauty addicted and/or Satan worshiping.

oh yes... a stop order was put on that building. The architect has been in trouble before for unethical building before. At least as far as i know from my archi-rumor pool.

What is wrong with you?! Is it such a complete impossibility that a couple of hard-working young adult creatives actually made something of themselves and finally fulfilled their dream of "movin' on up" into a beautiful new condo?! Is it really necessary to wish all that is evil on them? Who are you to assume these are "the Wall Street crowd" and not just kids from the hood who are proud to stay in Brooklyn?! In this train of thought, I guess they are expected to live as starving artists for the rest of their lives, fighting off cockroaches, barely affording to feed their Pug and hoping the roof doesn't leak on their shitty Ikea furniture, right?

You should be happy that the people of Williamsburg have made a name for themselves and that this area is thriving!

HAHAHA its Mr. Beauty Addiction here to tell you the real story about the "hold out"" building.
I've lived in that bldg for 7 yrs, long before any development. When you could look out that window and see all sorts of sorted activities being performed by people who thought they were in an isolated and secluded spot.

Now look what happened.

The "hold out" building will be developed by the bldg's owner. And I'll be moving back in once its done with its city views.

Regarding the syringe banner, thank you for noticing, it has to do with my clothing line and no social commentary on the development which is fantastic for the neighborhood.

I doubt whether I'll be able to put another one, so enjoy it while it lasts. I will be videotaping the destruction of the building and the downfall of the banner.

I enjoyed the speculation. It was quite entertaining.
