Meanwhile, Down at the End of Court Street

How about a reach-out-and-touch-a-truck vista offered by this new building at the end of Court Street at Garnet Street and Hamilton Avenue up against Ye Olde Gowanus Expressway? A Court Street resident reports on construction progress upon returning from a trip:

When I peeked out my front window onto Court, I saw that a building they'd been working on for a few months had suddenly sprouted two floors. Most of the buildings here are ground floor plus two levels above. So you can imagine this thing towers above them all, but ironically whoever might eventually live in those two 'extra' floors could almost reach out and shake hands with the motorists on the Gowanus Expressway. Anyway, the building's on a really busy intersection and it would be hell to live there. The noise of the trucks can be bad enough at times and I'm a bit back from the whole thing... Now that's a real estate selling job, can't wait to read the description of those apts.
One-of-a-kind opportunity for the automotive enthuasiast...No need to check Gowanus or Battery Tunnel traffic report!

Perfect. Now everyone coming in to the city can see me masturbate. I could also bust one out on a passing a passing windowshield, if I got enough vitamin E in me.

Ha! I saw this too the last time I was on the BQE. Just after Christmas, it was bare steel, the next time I drove past, last week, the walls were up and I was dismayed it was a Fedders special.

What an awful place to live!

If it's available for under $800 a month, let me know. I'll take it.

at least the building will block some the bqe and some noise

aren't there serious plans to sink the BQE in this area? I thought I heard by 2020? The value for those units will plummet if that happens. No more view!!

Maybe the source should stick their thick fucking head out the window a little more often-- "suddenly" was two months ago. it was NOT just bare steel & there photos to prove it tho' work of course has proceeded.

Last poster-- sunken Gowanus is mostly 3rd Avenue, tho' i admit to not looking at plans lately.

if it took 50+ years to fix the Gowanuis Flushing Tunnel-- just so it could break, again & again & again-- & a jillion years for 2nd Ave subway line...

try 3020, at the earliest, so don't even think about it.

xxoo,

AE

Well Amelia, I don't know when the bare steel was put up, but the top two floors definitely were bare just after Christmas. Then all of a sudden the walls and fedders were up.

I have been watching the proposals for sinking the BQE. There are 3 proposals and most have some work being done from 3rd ave. to the tunnel entrance. I don't believe one has been picked yet. Whatever happens it is a long way off. I think the BQE as it is is to expensive to maintain.

I agree w/poster #3. This is a plus for every other house on that block.

Jeez, Amelia Earhardt above at #5 is a little angsty. Got some vested interest in the building we're criticizing? Seriously though. Why does something as mundane as a bunch of us shooting the breeze on the funny building by the BQE trigger you to use the work fuck? Can't you save it for important things like the polluted canal or the crazy amount of noisy trucks passing by? And we're only talking about the building going up quickly in a relative sense. No-one was standing there with a stop watch. Or were they? Amelia?

Also, I thought I read they were going to cover over the BQE from Atlantic to the tunnel as well to recapture some space for development. I bet that would be easier then sinking the BQE.

My husband and I have been watching this one with disbelief (from the highway) for several months. And they went to the effort to put granite on the exterior walls? Real estate is so bizarre in Brooklyn these days, it must be something in the water. Maybe you should have to take a sanity test when you get your building permit.
