LIC #2: The View from the Ground

We've run some shots of the new towers in Long Island City as seen from above, but we figured it's worth sharing the view from the ground too. Seems only yesterday they were holes in the ground. Reports say the Rockrose building that opened last year is almost fully rented, but residents are complaining about parking. We assume the free month of rent hasn't hurt. (Not to worry, though. There's a six-story behemoth coming.) Also coming are a supermarket (no word on the chain) and a Duane Reade. Rockrose says 50 percent of the EastCoast renters have come from Manhattan. Total Rockrose share of the LIC pie when finished--7 buildings with 3,400 units. Avalon Riverview North (the building on the right) did win the topping off race recently, though.

It is funny but I went to Rockrose and they never offered a free month and the people that I know that rented there never got a free month either. I guess it was a "Curbed Special".

Cue the LIC fight on message boards.

They weren't filling out as they hoped so they started offering the free month as an incentive a few months into it.

This whole thing about Brooklyn and Queens and every crappo building going up off island is really sickening. Enough already! Who are buying into these "Coop City Complex" type environments? It's almost as bad as Battery Park City and the dullards that live down there.

WOULD SOMEONE PLEASE TELL THESE DEVELOPERS TO STOP!

Well, I wouldn't go as far to call it Coop City, but I do find all those developments so disappointing. $1.5 million and you can't even have a dining room? The "great room" trend is so annoying. I don't want to serve Thanksgiving dinner in front of the television. And what's with the masturbatory bathrooms? Why does one need two sinks? How many couples have to brush their teeth at the EXACT SAME TIME? A lot of room is wasted on walk-in closets and "shower rooms." It's as if these developers think LICers are vanity freaks who only want room for their 100 pairs of shoes and cases of beauty products... but don't such people shudder at the idea of living in Queens?

I love you LIC, but I want my dining room! Don't make me leave you for Jackson Heights.

I have a friend who lives in one of the new buildings on Hunters Point and I am very impressed withthe neighborhood. The buildings are going up and people are moving in and restaurants, bars, eventually retail is following. This former industrial dump will be a thriving neighborhood with great views of NYC. I recently moved (rent) to UWS but was close to going LIC.

Fuck parking. The #7 train is two blocks away. Okay, it's not running for the next six weekends, but the E is walking distance as well. I'd really rather that Rockrose didn't flood the streets of LIC with 1800 cars.
