Red Hook Piers Redo Could Be a Go. Maybe.

2007_02_RedHookPiers.jpgLooks like that big and contentious plan to give the heave-ho to cargo operations on the Red Hook waterfront and replace them with another cruise terminal and a variety of developments that are yet to be determined has taken a step forward. The Port Authority seems to now be saying yes to turning over Piers 7-12 in Red Hook to the city for redevelopment, whereas there had been some indication the whole thing was under review. The plan has already sparked a variety of protests and shouting matches. There is also some interesting insider-type intrigue. And, there's still strong opposition to it, including some within New York's Congressional delegation. Initial proposals for part of the site are due soon. Other than that, keeping track of what might go where, is a breeze.
