Chelsea Rallies to Save Giant Iconic Cupcake

It's happening—our fond dream that the giant rotating cupcake atop West 23rd's Burgers and Cupcakes earn neighborhood landmark status, that is. Note the homemade protest sign, above left, part of a movement that can only be described as destiny.

They really do have great cupcakes. Alas, people not in the know think they have discovered something new and great. Burgers and Cupcakes is actually Mitchell London Foods. They have a small cafe on the Upper East side between 5th and Madison on 65th or 66th Street. They expanded to the dirty 30s and opened a Mitchell London Foods on 9th Ave at 37th Street. They renamed the 9th Ave Burgers and Cupcakes and shortly thereafter opened the 23rd Street location. Its been around for a while but dont tell that to the Yuppies, they think its new and exciting...

...while non-Yuppies smugly pat themselves on the back about having extensive knowledge about a bakery.

The cupcakes are great, but forget the rest of the menu. Lousy burgers, limp fries, inept service.

Agree that the burgers are nothing special, particularly with Shake Shack just up the street.

Have to side with Billy's Bakery cupcakes just around the corner on 9th between 21st and 22nd. I think they're far superior.

as someone who passes the giant cupcake every morning (an who witnessed it's erection a few months ago - fondly recalling it sitting on the sidewalk, wrapped in plastic and eager to rise far, far above the bustling streets of chelsea) I believe that we need an immediate campaign to retain the aforementioned small (but large) cake.

Chelsea is already severely loosing any character that it had, we should be trying to great rid of the GAP next store, i find that place far more offensive than the cupcake.
