Party Report: Williamsburg Gets Its Ikon

From the looks of this Flickr photo set posted by new Curbed BFF John Fewell, the Ikon's opening party in Williamsburg wasn't all flashbulbs and fake celebrities, as was promised. Fewell also filed this report—at 4:45 a.m., all in the name of journalism:

There were at least 4 party photographers with professional SLRs lurking about taking pictures of the same groups of attractive people. It was a bar with a view... of Mccarren pool. Amazing. Marquee-esque club vibe was in full effect with velvet rope, security, bouncers. But will it sell expensive luxury condos?
Ah, the multi-million dollar question! Any other attendees care to share?

Seems like an event tailor-made for some creative disruption by Williamsburg's reportedly edgy others, ie those not part of the luxury condo dream. Show up and heckle, at least. Jeez. Instead someone went there to take photographs. Disappointing.

"Wow -- looks awesome. These places are going to sell quick!"

Hey, look - it's the broker! Welcome to the discussion.

It was certainly an event that created buzz. Cheesy, but it did create talk amongst the type that is moving to Williamsburg these days. Are the prices reasonable or outrageous? When's this thing ready? 2008-ish?

I think Robbie Robinson was being sarcastic, a broker would go into a long diatribe of how well projects in the area are doing, and how very few places are left, and how the building is 90% sold , and how many young professionals from manhattan are inquiring about the place.

I wasn't being sarcastic; I just assumed that everyone knew these places were going to fly 'off the shelf'. This area is a goldmine and will easily surpass the 1k/sq ft mark soon. An easy double.

Stop toying with us Robbie- the intertubes dont carry sarcasm well.

and to think, just a year ago it was an abandoned factory filled with squaters

By james at April 20, 2007 2:10 PM

12.

Actually, that factory is right down the block - the squaters are still there.

I bought a unit at the event. It was under $800 per sq foot. That's a deal no matter which of you assholes wants to criticize me. I'll be laughing on the way to the bank when I sell it for 1000 per sq ft.
Now stop spreading information that's just plain wrong.
You locals should all be thanking people like me for helping to raise the profile of the neighborhood.
And Robinson may very well be a broker. I don't care. But I guarantee that one of you bashers out there is also a broker from another company.
Grow up and stop ruining a great neighborhood. You're not protecting it.

Did anyone notice that this used to be called Aqua? Remember...poolside living? I guess they realized that wasn't going to work. I went to an open house this past fall. It was still very much under construction but the model looked great.

#13. Are you looking forward to the concerts 3nights per week. They run until 11pm, but the crows hang around until at least midnight. Weekdays too im sure they do a movie screening. Great eh? Now you know what your $800 psf paid for right. Such a dick.

Don't forget the Soccer Matches & mid-night baseball don't forget the Stadium lights that never go off in the park. Oh yeah and the abandoned wooden building next to it that is rat infested in which the landlord will not sell. Great view
