Will Blackout Curtains Come with Karl Fischer Row Condos?

Going to be some bright, shiny nights on view outside the windows of all the pricey condos like the Ikon and the Aurora on Karl Fischer Row (AKA Bayard Street) along McCarren Park. That's because humongous "sports lights" are going in on the soccer field. A tipster writes:

This means megaton wattage shining in the windows of all the new luxury condos--one of which is supposed to be mine in a few weeks. I wonder if there are other buyers who are distressed at this news. I'm sure they're unaware of it. The sponsor's rep who met me there last week claimed to not know about it.
Maybe they missed the huge sign with the drawings of the new light towers at the entrance to the park on Lorimer and Bayard and the fences that now surround the soccer field? Concerts at McCarren Pool and illuminated night soccer!

We live on Driggs and Grand facing the park and those lights shine brightly in OUR apartment. They are going to be unbearable during nighttime sporting events.

they'd lose the view of manhattan sooner or later what with the high rises planned for bushwick inlet and northward in Greenpoint.

The refurbishment of the park has been going on for a couple of years now - the floodlights were known about by most

#2, don't worry, that won't stop people from complaining about it. they're trying to escape the paparazzi, after all.

Wait, were you not going to buy curtains before you heard about this?

one plus: the lights will extend the soon-to-start hispanic park-BBQ season late into the night, and McCarren park IS a popular BBQ destination.

#1 - If the McCarren lights are bothering you at Driggs & Grand, they must be really, REALLY bright.

In general - I was wondering how long it would take the luxuriants to start complaining about the park and the lighting plan. I figured they would at least unpack first, but I guess not. The lighting has been a major part of the McCarren upgrade for years, and I think was even immortalized in the rezoning agreement between the administration and the council. Live with it.

There was a gala event at a landmark location diagonally opposite my house a couple months ago. The lights were probably the equivalent of two blocks away but illuminated my entire house with a creepy white light that was more than bright enough to read a newspaper by. If you're going to experience this several nights a week throughout the summer it is definitely going to be an inconvenience.

mwahahahaha! best news i've heard all day. the only thing that would make it better is if the lights could turn on "the row" and shoot out lasers.

By greenpointed at May 1, 2007 9:13 PM

Yes, lets axe the lights so they do not impede the enjoyment of your luxory condo! That is far preferable than the rest of the community being able to enjoy the park for longer hours.

Just buy an apartment facing the BQE instead. Hope you didn't pay a premium for your "view".

BBQ's, lights, view-shmiew! People who buy in these areas know what they're getting into- apart maybe from the bright light issue; not sure if it was possible to see that coming. They're all pissed off because they overpaid, and coming to the realization that it's not all that!

there are always pluses to all that light. it will cut down on your electric bill. Look at the positives. you are going to have to deal with a lot of crap form jealous people who only wish they can reach high in life, but in the end they are the ones still renting. All the negative comments that flood the pages are childish. PEOPLE.... grow up.

Jealousy would only come into play if we were talking about a pad on CPW, or Brooklyn Heights on the Promenade, just to name a few. McCarren Park??? I think not- I'll keep renting, you keep paying for your overpriced, not too smart investment.

By Anonymous at May 3, 2007 6:05 AM

RENTING....what a great option in life. Way to aim high in life, real smart financial move. No one said McCarren park should be the next CPW or Promenade. There is no comparison between them. But it is nice to have it there.
