CurbedWire: Amexvertecture Update, Craigslist Tease

CHELSEASome burgeoning ad whizzes have added a little creative to one of the new Amex billboards that have been dotting the cityscape. Says Blog Chelsea, which snapped the above photo, "If we can’t get rid of the billboards, at least they can be used to ridicule the High Line over-development." [Blog Chelsea]

DIGITAL REAL ESTATEA Curbed reader writes, "Anyone know what the deal was with the very legit-seeming ad on Craigslist for about three hours this morning (presumably taken down due to a massive response): $2000 for a 3-bed in the West Village on thompson and bleecker, 2 baths, duplex, real name and phone number of owner? has anyone seen this apartment?" "has anyone seen this apartment?" the writer asks for the West Village 3 bed.

Am I really reading this or do stupid people like this really think apartments like this exist? When are people gonna learn that just because something is written does not make it real.

I have seen these fake rental ads on craigslist before. The dead give away is the lack of knowledge of New York City rental market to begin with.

They have traced these tools to other states like Texas or Louisiana, and are people who are completely unfamiliar with NYC, just that there is high enough demand for rentals.

They ask you to mail in your deposit and they will mail you the keys. Claiming they had to leave town quickly and didnt have a chance to advertise the unit until now.

Maybe in Crawford texas you can get a 3 bedroom for $2,000 but not in the West Village. So hopefully those really interested in renting a 3 bedroom are saavy enough to realize the hoax.

As an owner of 2 buildingsin the west village with 1 bedrooms which rent for $25-2800, I can tell you that this ad is not real.

I have heard from multiple people attending open houses I run that often times a "to good to be true" rental is listed with a $100 application fee.

Makes me sick.

Thompson and Bleecker is _not_ the west village, but rather, a booze-soaked b&t hellhole, where, lest we forget, a shootout occurred a month or so ago.
