Real Estate Porn Drops the Porn Part

Hey, speaking of breaking that pesky $53 million record, another property that's been trying to shatter that mark for a while is the famed Guccione Mansion on the Upper East Side. After the failed auction and failed Corcoran go-round, Brown Harris Stevens superbroker Paula Del Nunzio now has the $59 million listing, and she's trying to scrub it clean of its seedy past. The Observer's Max Abelson reports:

She renamed it after the insurance executive Jeremiah Milbank, who helped build it. Her listing begins, “The Milbank Mansion: A New York Monument.”

Will that erase dirty Bob Guccione Sr. from potential buyers’ memories? “It’s not a dirty word,” Ms. Del Nunzio told The Observer. “It’s just that it pigeonholes it into one small little box, when it’s actually so much more than that. That brings to mind something that has nothing to do with the property.”

Except, of course, that the mansion—indoor Roman-style pool and all—looks fairly similar to the digs in the Guccione-produced art film Caligula. Who would you rather buy a $59 million sin-filled pleasure palace from, anyway? Bob Guccione (teary eyed, above) or some boring insurance salesman (dead)?

1.

The Milbanks' money originally came from condensed milk:

Scroll down for a mention of Jeremiah Milbank's being an early investor in Borden's Condensed Milk.
