"Upper East Siders fear for their tiny dogs in new unified run"

If you read the article, you will discover that the run is not unified. The small and large dog areas are separated. The main complaint seems to be that the small dog sections should be larger to reflect the demographics of the dogs using the run.

Guskind's post about Red Hook is interesting but his thoughts are INANE. The scene down there has only gotten attention in the last few years; how long was it there before with only a smattering of white folks?

Point being, the support has to come from WITHIN. While I'm happy the vendors now do better because some yuppies aren't scared to go there, what the fuck makes you think Prospect Park should or could have its own ethnic vendors? Maybe yes, maybe no BUT...

if Guskind the fuck out of white bread Brooklyn-- which he obviously does NOT-- he'd know what's already happening & that the black diaspora, Latin folk have other ideas.

Red Hook was born & sustained because of soccer & beisbol, not because blogging douchebags finally noticed.

How long have you lived here Guskind? 'Fess up, Son. It's OK but boy do you flounder on "perpsective."

#2 There are a lot of parallels between Rent Stabilization/Rent Control and what's going on with the vendors in Red Hook. Both groups (RS/RC tenants and the Red Hook vendors) argue that they are "entitled" to stay where they are because (a) they arrived first, and (b) changing the makeup of the neighborhood would somehow be a bad thing.

One distinction: the Red Hook vendors are trying to screw NYC government out of higher rent money -- instead of a private citizen landlord. So, in effect, the Red Hook vendors are asking for a free or subsidized break from all NY-ers who pay tax to the city.

Lets not kid ourselves about the red hook vendors. the reason they are being pushed out is because it will be too much competition for ikea's swedish meatballs. funny how Ikea marketed themselves as being a boon to the projects and the neighborhood and the first thing they do is try to get rid of a red hook vendors...one of the things i love most about the hook. May ikea rot in the detritus of their particle board.
