ok, so property owners get a lower real estate tax bill and, as city Comptroller Bill Thompson proposes, RS tenants would get a ZERO percent increase in rent this year... what do NON-RS tenants get?

note to self: never vote for Bill Thompson

why doesn't bill thomson buy all the RS/RC buildings in NYC and then he can be as generous as he wants..scumbag

Hey, #1 RS/RC detractor, maybe you should go out and buy a place to live instead of whining about having to pay market rent.

Also, if you're a non-RS tenant and you want the city to dictate how much rent you should pay, then you WOULD be a RS tenant. If you don't like it move to kansas.

as i've indicated on this site before, i own my apartment in manhattan. so, it's not at all about sour grapes. what bothers me is that RS/RC is unfair. there are people who really need RS/RC but can't get it, and there are some really rich and/or lazy people who abuse the RS/RC system. no matter how much in favor of RS/RC you are, i think you HAVE to admit that it is NOT applied in a fair and equitable manner.

I mean, come on already people.

Nothing better to do than whine & bitch about every aspect of outdoor advertising?

so, if there's no increase for rc/rs, that means that a non-eviction coop would have to wait at least an extra year to have that apartment reach the limit to come out from under control - that doesn't sound right either...

Hm... water charge went up(11%!) as well as fuel cost ... maybe we should raise the rent 25% and then deduct the 7% from p-tax cut...

Damn, I wish the soho politics could write a little less densely.

I would read his blog if I could get through the verbosity.

My rent went up 25% - Bill, what you got for me!!! Why are you regulating rents for some (many not tax payers) at my expense (big tax payer).
The average RS apartment pays about $1K per month - so the proposed increases are about $30/ month. They can't handle another $30/month you say?? In this town???? In this economy??? You totally underestimate R/S tenants.
Why does Bill think I can handle $1,000/month increase, but the RS tenant can't handle a $30 increase. Pandering at its worst!!

Come on Bill - you're driving a lot of guys like me out of the city.

I am no anti rent stabilization zealot but at the same time, Thompson's proposal bears no relation to economics and indicates to me that he has learned nothing from our excellent Mayor Bloomberg who at least tries to tie his policies to reality.

#9 is right Padering of the worst kind - and while it was unclear to me before what type of mayor Thompson would be - it is now very clear and I now know whom I am NOT voting for.

by the way, people who argue "If you don't like it, move to Kansas" are so feeble-minded that they must be on RS/RC (because if they were more clever, they'd own their own homes).

why is it a stupid argument? because it can be applied to almost any situation. for example, you don't like the way rents go up in nyc? then don't rely on the price controls of RS/RC, JUST GO MOVE TO KANSAS. see how stupid that is?
