Two Trees' Dumbo Vision Revealed in Model Form

When a grainy photo taken inside Two Trees Management's office shows up, we pay attention. When that photo shows a model of the Dumbo neighborhood we all know and love—but with some bonus features—we break out the red numbers. Here is Dumbo: the Director's Cut, now openly on display in a Walentas lobby near you:

1) Looks like the controversial Dock Street development is a given in the Walentas' hypothetical future Dumbo. What say you, angry mob?
2) Is that Jane Walentas' painfully restored 1922 carousel? You bet it is! We already know that this sucker will wind up in Brooklyn Bridge Park one day, but it's nice to see they're giving it a prime spot.
3) Here we have the Empire Warehouses, which reportedly will wind up as a performing arts venue, sporting a nice Brooklyn Dodgers tribute.
4) Holy shit, a marina?! Well, there ain't a Dock Street for nothing, kids. For what it's worth, we're hearing that the Two Trees gang doesn't actually think a marina will happen, it's just a dream. And what a dream! Jeeves, I'll take my highball on the schooner!

As our anonymous tipster points out, "Walentas is going into master builder mode," but it's not like Dumbo's First Fam hasn't been kicking it into high gear already.

Gotta say no to the marina--that would destroy the little beach and the stone steps in the existing park. Please don't wreck one of the best spots to sit and think in the city just for a place where rich people can park their yachts. Two trees--we're watching you.

that is so disgusting!!! that area of the park is so nice and such a peaceful place. why do these realtors have to destroy EVERYTHING? isn't this a state park? can't these tasteless developers leave a good thing alone?

4.

the marina is *conceptual*, everyone calm down.

People can't seem to read:

"we're hearing that the Two Trees gang doesn't actually think a marina will happen, it's just a dream"

6.

oh please, it's more than conceptual. otherwise they wouldn't have even made that model. it's a way to get people used to idea so they can eventually get their "pry bar" out and pay off a few politicians to get some re-zoning done. this has been happening over and over again.

What a moronic dream. Our "fantasy" is to tear up something that is enjoyed by thousands every day so that a few well-heeled individuals can tie up their yachts a tad closer to home. Welcome to NYC in the 21st century.

anyone knows what will happen to the j condo views? will those apts looking towards the bridge have their views obstructed?

By no one knows at August 9, 2007 12:40 PM

9.

so #6, I guess it's gonna happen then.

Just like calatrava's gondola and his stacking $30M a peice townhome stacking blocks on South Street. He made a model so it will be built.

Aside from the addition of the dock st. building this model is 9 years old. or older.

Dream indeed, let's hope that this is all just delusion.

Nobody mentioned the nice littel plaza on Main St. in front of the CLocktower or the roof of Empire stores which looks like more park.

The NYC building under the bridge is gone!

No 8., I think most J condo views will be the same, 70 washington isn't much shorter than the proposed building. There may be a few floors impacted, but nothing like what will happen to 70 Washington.

Why are developers making such hideous buildings in Brklyn? Did they use architects or just some retarded children with Lego blocks?

Pa, werent you the guy complaing the they were gonna turn Coney Island into "condo island," and NYC, into "NYCondo city," excellent use of the word condo by the way, since DUMBO or
"CONDO" as you would put it is full of condos, what the fuck do you care what they do and dont do with the park?

I am so going to miss that little bit of actual East River BEACH with lapping tides just behind the bridge superstructure in Brooklyn Bridge Park. It's one of the only places -- maybe the only -- in the bottom 9/10 of Manhattan where the rivers aren't walled off like some artificial canal. I'm going to miss there being a single spot where you can walk right down into the East River. (I know, I know, it's a tidal estuary and not a river, hence the tides, but you know what I mean.)

#17. I had just posted this on Brownstoner and thought it was an appropriate rant for here, too:
I would suggest to anyone that legitimately likes the marina, to study this model closely and then go visit the existing park. Notice what they are targeting? The spot where the MOST people like to hang out in the park! The steps and the pebble beach where people like to sit and read, take in the skyline or watch the water. And destroy it for what? A few people's boats? Go sit by the boat basin in BPC and tell me that you would still replace the existing space with a giant reeking cement pool where rich people's boats sit in a slick of stagnant water and discarded poland spring bottles.

By Anonymous at August 9, 2007 4:11 PM

21.

You guys are all just jealous that you can't afford boats.

By Anonymous at August 9, 2007 5:06 PM

22.

we could all probobly afford boats, a slot in this marina however is gonna cost you.

By Anonymous at August 9, 2007 5:15 PM

23.

Two trees doesnt own the park the public does. If they proposed this the residents of DUMBO, the very wealthy residents of DUMBO, can tell two trees to suck a dick. Although I think the hedge fund and private equity managers would like to commute from their slot in DUMBO to their slot in Battery Park, just so they can feel even more like pirates.

By Anonymous at August 9, 2007 5:19 PM

24.

Can't afford a boat if you can't afford a slip, duh.

By Anonymous at August 9, 2007 7:55 PM

25.

I love the idea of a marina near Dumbo / BK Heights. Although, I like that park & think a marina would make more sense further south along Furman St.
