West Village Officially Getting Its Curves

Coming right at you, rather menacingly, is visual proof that ground has just broken on the bendy One Jackson Square, also known as 122 Greenwich Avenue. The picture comes from the Flickr page of Jeremiah's Vanishing New York, who writes, "The digging machines have rolled in, the trees have been felled, and half the street is blocked off. Say goodbye to this particular patch of sky and get ready to undulate." Indeed! Potential fallout: will the pigeon lady be scared off by all the heavy machinery?

I wonder if Tom Fontana ( Oz, St. Elsewhere, Homocide Producer ) will be moving?? He lives right next door in a fabulous , under the radar , beautiful townhouse.

Maybe this was discussed in earlier posts, but what will thr - drunk homeless and already pissed-off individuals - who call the park across the street "home" do?

Will this condo find a way to boot them out of their park?

Or will the uber-rich elite accept them as part of the neighborhood and ignore them and let them be?

fellow curbed readers, if you would take a minute to fill out my survey on NYC neighborhood trends, I would appreciate it. I know some people have been bothered by my postings so I promise to keep the postings limited. Thanks again!

I don't eve remember seeing any trees to fell at this former parking lot? I know the stress of change can be compared to that of loosing a loved one, but must New Yorkers be so dramatic about such trivial matters? More rich people condos rising...big deal. Maybe that means less asshole converting my ancient tenement walk-up into their own private sex dungeon

Has anyone else pointed out that there's a subway substation next door to this lot? (between the lot and Tom Fontana's building) We work next to a different substation and our TVs are always a little scrambled because of the radiation/magnetic forces at work in the substation. Personally, it worries me to work next to this and it would scare the heck out of me to pay millions of dollars to live next to it.

My husband and I are considering the building and were very concerned about living next to the substation so we did our own investigation and found that the levels are not high enough to cause any interference or health risk.

The tree that came down was not even on the site, but behind a fence just off the property. So much for the "green" building rhetoric on the signage for Jackson Square! The developers plan to throw a lot of money into the park to get rid of the hobo's, but I don't know how their plan would work. By the way, all work has stopped today (Wednesday)-maybe there is a problem???

#8 It will most likely "work" the way Madison Sq. Pk.. The companies (or in this case developper) will pay a lot of money to create a "X Park.Org" group that will then rigorously and vigilantly remove/persuade/harass the homeless that use this park variously as a toilet/bazaar/combat arena/bedroom, until it is clean and spiffy and suitable for TV executives and boutique shop girls to sit and have their lunch... hopefully sans the toilet aspect.

The homeless will then begin to overcrowd the already homeless crammed steps of Nikel across the street until (which i do not know why not yet), they install a Tasteful 11ft. high fence in front of their steps.

Not to sound snob, but you pay x tons of $$ for pedicure and spa treatments and then step out onto trash strewn, urine/garbage covered steps and sidewalk.....?

this whole area of 8th Ave is kind of a disgusting hell hole and anyone that says differently is not being honest or simply just totally contrarian

the construction did not stop, they end at 3pm daily. I think this building is going too be hot and totally redefine that upper part of the West Village. Armani exchange has made some effort to clean up the park as their employees eat lunch there every day.soon it will be another pretty, prissy park like everywhere else in the city.
