Finger Building Decision Put on Hold
Tuesday, October 16, 2007, by Robert
Anyone that thought a judge's decision capping the height of the notorious half-built Finger Building in Williamsburg was the final word, was wrong. The Finger Fight shifted today to the obscure city agency known as the Board of Standards and Appeals. They were expected to rule that the Finger--which needs new building permits to be completed at any height--could go forward. A special correspondent reports that the BSA decided to keep thinking about it instead:
The BSA has asked that the decision on 144 N 8th AKA the Finger Building continue on November 20th. Apparently, strong community and political opposition has delayed the BSA's apparent pre-meeting decision to allow the project to go forward.
And so, it continues.

Mr. Brach, Tear Down This Finger! [Curbed]
How much forgone income did that developer loose on this project??? this has been going for what, 3? 4 years now? when did it break ground?
I'm not sure that curbed is correct on this one. As I understand it, there are two issues: 1) whether the vesting of the building under the previous zoning will be extended 2) exactly what air rights the developer controlled under the old zoning. The BSA is ruling on the former, the judge ruled on the latter.
The construction was not stopped because of NIMBYs, it was stopped because Brach ganked his neighbor's air rights.
