Does The Plaza Have an Edge on 15 CPW?

Thursday, December 6, 2007, by Joey

2007_12_plaza15cpw.jpgThe largely imagined feud between luxury developments 15 Central Park West and The Plaza is getting a little tired. Over the weekend, The Times casually mentioned that The Plaza had yet to sell out, and many buyers were dragging their heels on closing. We've been waiting for The Plaza's look-at-how-awesome-we're-doing rebuttal ever since, and it finally arrives via The Real Estate. The "most expensive condos" (as opposed to the "expensive condos") have sold for $6,400/sf—$100 more than 15 CPW!—and according to Elizabeth Stribling, "We’ve had three individual buyers buy apartments for between $40 million and $50 million, one between $30 million and $40 million; and four between $20 million and $30 million." Yes, but does The Plaza have a Best Buy? What we always liked about 15 CPW is how the folks involved never really made a big deal out of the blockbuster sales. They only started to gloat once the total number hit $1 billion and the building sold out. The Plaza is getting a little too "Look at us! Over here!" for our liking, but hey, you gotta get those Russians through the doors somehow.
