Oh, Park Slope, how you sometimes delight. One of today's hot topics over at the Park Slope Parents group is 'Is there a Park Slope in Boston?' There have been many answers hitting inboxes via their emails so far, with the leading candidates for Bostonian Park Slopedom including Brookline and Cambridge (which are independent towns). The Number One Boston Park Slope that's actually in the city seems to be Jamaica Plain. A sample opinion: "It certainly has that 'crunchy granola' park-slopey, kid- friendly attitude and it's within the Boston city limits."
One mom digs Cambridge because it has "a small town feel" and is liberal enough to be "the People's Republic of Cambridge." Another gives thumbs up to the whole city because "quite a lot of Boston shuts down at night, but I think that's partly because it is family-oriented (who needs 5 million bars open at 3 am? They're all in bed with the kids!)." One person disagrees with all the pro-Brookline and Cambridge stuff, writing, "These are nice places in many ways, but having lived there, they are no park slope."
One of the better lines, though, belongs to the Park Slope mom that writes, "We're from Brookline, and we always say that Park Slope is the Brookline of New York." Touché. But we'll close with this: "The whole darn city is like Brooklyn/slope...Don't wait to get the hell out of this city! Boston rules! (go Red Sox, hee hee)." All this time, we were trying to figure out if Jackson Heights is the Park Slope of Queens.
