The Midtown crane collapse that claimed seven lives over the weekend is still sending shockwaves far beyond Turtle Bay. Criminal charges are a possibility, and the Buildings Department—particularly commissioner Patricia Lancaster—is under unprecedented heat. But at 303 East 51st Street and its immediate surroundings, the focus is still on cleaning up the mess. Curbed photographer Will Femia visited the scene yesterday, and while the area is fairly off-limits to anyone but workers and officials, the scene from the sidewalks is still revealing and frightening.
