Yardsmania: Behind the Bids
Wednesday, March 26, 2008, by Joey
The Real Estate has a rundown of events explaining how the Hudson Yards bidders' list was whittled down to winner Tishman Speyer. Related only wanted to develop the western chunk of the rail yards (adios). Extell submitted the highest bid at $1.15 billion, but refused to pay sales tax on the site (sayonara). Durst/Vornado kept raising its bid to close the gap with Tishman, but in the end it was not enough (shalom). Also, Tishman is scaling back some of the planned office space at the site.
