Mac Buys at BLUE; What Now for PC?

BLUE, Norfolk Street's 16-story pixelated wonder, looks like a building designed by a computer gone mad. So it's only appropriate that actor Justin Long, the personification of every nerdy fanboy's greatest love, would purchase a condo atop the Lower East Side's loved/hated luxury high-rise. According to a Sun report, "Tower 15," one of BLUE's fancy full-floor residences, was scooped up by Long for $2.4 million. According to the Corcoran listing, the 1,975-square-foot apartment has two bedrooms, two bathrooms and plenty of big windows to gaze out upon Delancey Street and beyond. So, we get it: Applehip, edgy, Lower East Side. Does this mean that PC-repping John Hodgman will be forced to buy at some white-glove Upper East Side co-op?

Summer Sequels: Batman Billboard Can't Catch a Break

Back in the summer of 2005, a Batman Begins billboard visible from the Williamsburg Bridge was altered (in legendary fashion, in our humble opinion) by Neckface, since divorced. Now, three years later, an ad for the film's sequel has gone up on the exact same billboard, and even though Neckface is semi-retired, we knew that the target would prove too tempting for fame-seeking graffitists. ANIMAL has the shot you see at top right, and while it's not as inspired as Neckface's original, there is an amusing subplot: Here's what the billboard looked like last week.

Comeback Story: 'Yuppie' is the Insult Du Jour

The term "yuppie" hasn't been a meaningful insult since the mid-80's, but the relevance of the term appears to be making a comeback in these heady days of runaway gentrification and real estate development. First, we took notice of the "Die Yuppie Scum" window dressing on the Lower East Side, surely the product of some nostalgia-minded art prankster. Then, a real throwback: an East Village anti-yuppie rager, just like in olden times. And now, because three makes a trend, the latest a blunt message for our young urban professional friends spotted by New York Shitty in Williamsburg. Folks, Williamsburg. Where trends (trucker hats, high-wasted pants, jazz shoes, beards) are cemented! So, that's the Lower East Side, East Village and the 'Burg. Now, if only someone could send us a cam-phone shot of yuppie-themed graffiti inside the McKibbin Lofts, then we can begin our preparations for the corresponding line of Urban Outfitters t-shirts.

'Die Hard Yuppie Scum' Protest the Latest in Bowery Hijinx

Last week, a couple of notable (maybe?) East Villagers created a bit of a stir when they announced they were protesting Bruce Willis's Bowery Wine Co., because the newish spot had recently hosted a New York Young Republicans Club gathering. The protest would be against "right-wing Republicans opening yuppie wine bars in our neighborhood," they said. We assumed the story would just go away and the protest would never happen (inspiration often yields to procrastination when you get below 14th Street), but sure enough, a Curbed tipster sent in this photo of a flyer posted in the 'hood. Now, it's not only Bruce Willis and Republicans in the crosshairs, but also real estate developers and landlords in general. Will anyone actually show to this thing? Given that it's a Friday night at 8pm, all of the Bowery will have probably decamped to their Hamptons homes already.
