In Long Island City, 'Vast Emptiness' (And Plenty of Condos)
Now that the Long Island City waterfront is charging Manhattan prices (albeit not the fancy parts), the Post looks beyond the tony enclave of Hunters Point and focuses on the boom in the landlocked areasover by Queens Plaza and Court Square. Old Curbed favorites like Arris Lofts, Crescent Club and the terrifying Kimaya Lofts get shout-outs, but the puff piece is a little soft on compliments. In fact, some of them could be described as, dare we say, backhanded? For example: "Apart from the sprouting condos, there's not much these areas have to offer." What, strip clubs don't count as an amenity? But the best is saved for last, when Arris buyer Irma Zandichased off the Lower East Side because of its newfound hellishnessdescribes what drew her to LIC: "I got off the subway, I saw the [Arris Lofts] building, I saw the vast emptiness around it. I don't know, it really spoke to me." Let's just say we don't think Arris will be using "Enjoy our vast emptiness" as a marketing tagline anytime soon.

Construction Watch: Casa Vizcaya Begins to Satisfy

While we're dropping new Development Du Jours, why not take a moment to update an old one? Over in Queens, liQcity hit up the site of Casa Vizcaya, brought to you by the same developers behind new LIC obsession Kimaya Lofts. Vizcaya, per that old DDJ, is the 24-unit, 10-40 46th Road building that will provide a "unique atmosphere that satisfies your desires." Mmmkay. liQcity suspects a pricechop on the apartments, and that's kinda-sorta true: a couple units have had recent $60,000+ cuts, including this two-bedroom spot that was slashed mere hours ago. Wonder what the neighbors think about that?

Long Island City Gets a Tall & Skinny New Friend

We'd call this new Long Island City developmentrevealed on awesome neighborhood blog liQcitya finger building, but the truth is this stretch of Jackson Avenue near the Citigroup building is seeing a lot of change, with this Purves, the other Purves and a hotel all on the way. So instead, we'll just call this a sliver building. And what a sliver! Queens, say howdy to Kimaya Lofts, which Corcoran will market and sell for prices starting at $349,000, per the Kimaya website (and once someone moves those cars off the sidewalk). If this building reminds you of Robert Scarano's recently unveiled giant Bowery thing, you're not alone, but we checked The Scar's website and turned up no connection. The liQcity Flickr page has more shots of the current 26-08 Jackson Avenue lot, delightfully described as being "between Dykes Lumber & Mr. Wonton."
