On the Racked: Debut of the Mobile Fake Shop, Billion Dollar Babes Sale, Daffy's Blows, More

1) Chinatown: The latest development in the knock-off handbag and watch business is the mobile fake shop. Racked reports fake shops on wheels such as "a van parked on Baxter Street just north of Canal filled with faux designer bags." There isn't only one.
2) West Village: Over on a confusing stretch of Eighth Avenue, Steven Alan and Sergio Davila will return in August, Shoegasm is probably still alive but Coffee Sweet Heart's fate is very much unkown.
3) Chelsea: Do check out the pics of the Billion Dollar Babes' Vivienne Westwood Anglomania sale and there's still a few minutes left to hit it up before leaving town for the weekend.
4) Soho: The Daffy's on Broadway blows, but not necessarily the way you think.

Northside Piers Lets Loose with Duane Reade (& New Tower)

Remember the days of the Burg's Kent Avenue being a true Brooklyn wasteland? (All of about two years ago?) Totally doneski. New banners just went up around the Northside Piers complex noting the coming of a second tower and a tipster has pointed us to the website of Walker Malloy, which is handling leasing of the retail space at the Toll Brothers development. Among the many fascinating things therein is: "Duane Reade has taken half of unit C." There's also a list of spaces available and wish list of prospective tenants: "Waterfront restaurant plus three retail units in new three tower high rise project. Wanted: deli, bank, green grocer, hardware, coffee bar, etc." Our tipster, meanwhile, asks: "Is this the death of king’s pharmacy and the end of Williamsburg as we knew it?"

184 Kent Rendered With Retail & Without Additions

This listing for our good friend and old obsession 184 Kent Avenue would have caught our eye for offering of 17,850 square feet of prime Kent Avenue retail space with a 8,642 square foot mezzanine. Then, we noticed that the rendering doesn't include a big addition to the building protruding from the top. (The last version we came across did, although in reduced form.) Rumors of preservation and of big tax credits, not to mention reduced modifications, have been floating around for a long time. Regardless, the listing says 184 Kent will be ready in the second quarter of 2009, which means there's massive work to be done between now and then. The last word on the building was 358 rental units.

Grand Street Tower Comes Back as Hot Karl Mini

It looks like one of the big Karl Fischer "monster towers" planned for the corner of Grand Street and Driggs Avenue, which was recently rezoned after a bitter fight, is being seriously cut down to size. A banner that was just hung on the site offering retail space led to a new rendering of the much reduced building, which appears to have gone from ten stories down to about four and is being offered as a "build to suit retail opportunity." The building at 207 Grand would offer 8,339 square feet of retail or office space on the first and second floors and 6,000 square feet on a lower level and 6,000 square feet of rooftop space. There have been no revised applications for the Hot Karl Mini submitted to the Buildings Department where the original documents for the Tall Hot Karl is still on file.
See what this might be replacing, ahead.

On the Racked: NYC Temporarily Kid Robot-less, Ricky's Tries to Go Green, Paying in Euros, More
And now, the latest from Racked, covering shopping and retail from the sidewalks up.

1) Soho: This will be fixed soon, but right now, New York is Kid Robot-less. The toy and streetwear-pushing boutique closed its Pirate Store on Greene Street last week. The new flagship at 118 Prince is on its way.
2) Chelsea: Ricky's tried to go green for something or other, either Earth Day or St. Patrick's day. "Green," per the Racked photo gallery, includes "hemp air fresheners, fabric headbands with a condom-like plastic decoration, and various scents of hand sanitizer."
3) Soho: We knew it would come to this. The owner of Billy's Antiques at 78 E. Houston Street likes it when people pay in Euros.
4) UWS: West Elm is coming. Any guess as to which of our favorite buildings (hint: it includes "CPW") it's going into?

On the Racked: Doing It by the Pound, Auto Yard Sale, Aloha to Rags, Supine in Bushwick
And now, the latest from Racked, covering shopping and retail from the sidewalks up.

1) Midtown: Watch people buy clothing at By The Pound in this Racked photo gallery. See them line up. Watch them dig through containers of merchandise. Observe as they put it in their bags. Nasty, but fun.
2) MePa: For a different kind of scene, also captured via photo gallery, there's the outdoor Auto yard sale in the store's tented backyard garden. A gorgeous day + 50 percent off everything.
3) Hudson Square: There is nothing yard sale-like about Aloha Rag's new outpost at 505 Greenwich. It's a "stark, white rectangular showcase for racks of amazing clothing and a small assortment of well-edited accessories."
4) Buswick: The photos of street artist Judith Supine's installation "Dirt Mansion" at English Kills Art Gallery are very, very cool.

On the Racked: Inside the Big Armani, Eva Scrivo on Bond, Chocolate Bar Flight, More
And now, the latest from Racked, covering shopping and retail from the sidewalks up.

1) Midtown: Racked has a look inside the crazy-huge Armani store at 717 Fifth. All the lines under one room, plus "some sort of restaurant/bar, flower shop, candy shop and beauty area in the same building."
2) East Village: The Chocolate Bar, forced from its Eighth Avenue storefront, has found a new home in at 127 East 7th Street, between First and Ave A. Opening day is May 3rd.
3) Central Village: There is joy at 48 Bond as hair maven Eva Scrivo has opened her second full-service salon at 50 Bond. Racked calls the 3,000-square-foot space "a stunner" and has full photo gallery treatment.
4) Soho: It's too late to catch the Kate Bosworth CK billboard on Houston Street as it's been replaced by an image of model Ali Stephens wearing sunglasses. So tame, but perhaps some Eva Mendes lingerie shots soon?

On the Racked: Pike Place in the Park, Unhip Monogram, Flowery Itchome, Much Murakami
And now, the latest from Racked, covering shopping and retail from the sidewalks up.

1) Bryant Park: The coffee is flowing today in honor of the launch of Pike Place Roast and Racked is on hand with complete photo gallery coverage of the gratis java and, of course, the Starbucks Pike Place pop up.
2) West Village: Banana Republic's Monogram boutique is now open on Bleecker, but Racked wonders "what, exactly, Banana Republic is thinking with its new Monogram boutique (and line in general)." Also, the clothing is "unhip and geared toward an older clientele than Banana."
3) Boerum Hill: Aoyama Itchome has opened and its "breezy, flower-printed tops and dresses are recognizable to hard-core shoppers" via Anthropolgie and others. The new store is on Atlantic Avenue.
4) Prospect Heights: The major onslaught of Murakami at the Brooklyn Museum opened to the public on Saturday and Racked has cool and massive photo coverage.
